Hashtag Hacking

Hashtags are one of the most effective ways to expand the reach of your IG posts organicallyโ€”and, by extension, one of the best ways to grow your follower-count. (**๐™๐™š๐™–๐™˜๐™: ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š ๐™ฉ๐™ค๐™ฉ๐™–๐™ก ๐™ฃ๐™ช๐™ข๐™—๐™š๐™ง ๐™ค๐™› ๐™„๐™ฃ๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™–๐™œ๐™ง๐™–๐™ข ๐™ช๐™จ๐™š๐™ง๐™จ ๐™ฌ๐™๐™ค โ€œ๐™จ๐™–๐™ฌโ€ ๐™ฎ๐™ค๐™ช๐™ง ๐™ฅ๐™ค๐™จ๐™ฉ.**) Personally, hashtags account for roughly 15% - 25% of my postsโ€™ reach. So, theoretically, for every 1,000 of my followers who see one of my posts, I can bank on an additional 150 to 250 views by way of hashtags. Not bad!

Before I explain the categories, here are some best practices to keep in mind:

1. Donโ€™t copy/paste your hashtags. IG may โ€œshadow-banโ€ you (Google that :D). Instead, take the time to insert them manually.

2. Some people claim that 11 or some random number of hashtags is the optimal number but Iโ€™ve never come across anything conclusive to prove that idea. Bottom line is, IG allows up to 30 hashtags in a post. Use 10, use 20, use 30โ€”whatever gets you the reach you want. Test and adjust.

๐™๐™ง๐™š๐™ฃ๐™™๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ - Popular hashtags. E.g. #TBT. Heads-up, itโ€™s best to use hashtags that relate to your post, otherwise you could get flagged for hashtag-spamming.

๐™‡๐™ค๐™˜๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™–๐™ก - Neighborhood-, city-, or community-specific hashtags. E.g. in #Nashville, thereโ€™s a neighborhood called 12South. One of its popular hashtags is #12SouthNash.

๐˜ฟ๐™š๐™จ๐™˜๐™ง๐™ž๐™ฅ๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ซ๐™š - Hashtags that describe the content of your post. E.g. #ComingSoon.

๐™„๐™ฃ๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ง๐™š๐™จ๐™ฉ-๐™—๐™–๐™จ๐™š๐™™ - Hashtags that describe a general subject of interest. E.g. #LuxuryHomes.

๐™„๐™ฃ๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™ฉ-๐™—๐™–๐™จ๐™š๐™™ - Hashtags that connect to what a buyer or seller may be intending to do. E.g. #BuyingAHome.

๐˜ฝ๐™ง๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™๐™š๐™™ - Hashtags tied to specific brands that relate to the content of your post. E.g. #TomFerry. Again, donโ€™t use a brandโ€™s hashtag if itโ€™s totally random.

Happy ๐™๐™–๐™จ๐™๐™ฉ๐™–๐™œ๐™œ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ, folks!
